Nichiren Buddhists chant to bring forth the unlimited, enlightened potential within our life. The butsudan is the cupboard that holds the gohonzon- a scroll that represents our life and revealing our Buddha potential. I have made a few of these to commission. One job was to embellish a pre-existing cupboard with a lotus flower engraving and add an LED light.
Nichiren Buddhism expounds that all life inherently contains the potential for Buddhahood, a state of life filled with wisdom, courage and compassion that can be revealed by chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo. As we chant this phrase the Budha state quite naturally emerges from within, enabling us to draw on our liimitless inner resources and actively contribute to a creative and peaceful society.
